Janice Battle is a true New Yorker, she was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and continues to reside there today. Janice is a woman of many talents. She is a retired employee of JP Morgan after 23years of service. Before this she also worked at her former grammar school, St.Peter Claver in Brooklyn, NY and with the local NYPD Community Affairs division where she worked with children in the area. It was here at the NYPD where she met a now deceased NYPD detective who would introduce her to officiating the sport of track and field. Shortly after, Janice would join the PSAL H.S. Officials Association where she learned the sport of track & field and worked with thousands of high school athletes. Eventually, Janice would become the friendly face that helped guide and train many new incoming officials into the association. While with the PSAL Janice was encouraged to become a certified USATF official which furthered her officiating career. While a USATF official, Janice received assignments to travel nationally to officiate at National and NCAA meets. During these meets/events she gravitated towards the field events which included everything from Javelin, horizontal jumps, and throws. Eventually, the shot put would become the event she fell in love with. Over the past 26 years Janice has officiated at the University of Pennsylvania and has been the shot put chief for the past 8 years. It’s been rumored that Janice is even contemplating returning to high school officiating in the near future.
