Marvin Johnon

MARVIN JOHNSON (1933 - 2020) loved to hang out at the track and watch his children participate in the sport.  Someone had the good sense to suggest to him that he become an official as long as he was there anyhow.  So began Marvin Johnson’s career as one of the country’s finest officials.  Marvin’s specialty is the horizontal jumps and, in this capacity, he served as an official in the 1996 Olympic Games, 3 Olympic Trials, at least a dozen USATF National Open Championships, Youth Championships and Masters Championships.  He has officiated at many NCAA national championships, International meets like the Goodwill Game, Millrose Games, IAAF World Indoor Championship, New York State High School championships, Paralympics, Penn Relays, IC4A, ECAC, ACC and SEC Championships and Olympic Festivals.

Marvin prides himself in the fact that he has officiated in 23 different states but he has always remained an active member of the Metropolitan Association.  He served as Chairman of Metropolitan and as the Officials Committee Training Chair.  He also served as New York PSAL Rules Interpreter and was a member of the Olympic Selection Committee and the Goodwill Games Officials Selection Committee.

He is a member of the New York CHSAA Hall of Fame and the recipient of Metropolitan’s Outstanding Official Award.
