Louis Vazquez, Jr.
(1930 - 2012)
LOUIS VAZQUEZ, JR
officiated track & field meets for over 35 years, ever since his three sons began running for the track team at Xaverian High School. He never got to see his oldest son, Louis, run in high school. He was always working, By the time Louis moved on to Brooklyn College. Lou’s younger sons, Edward and Philip were a Xaverian. I could go to Van Courtland and see all three run in one day except that he had to run from one place to another. It was easier to become an official and watch them at the start and finish line.
He was a master USATF Official and was involved for many years with the MAC organization (now USATF-NY) for many years. In 1984, He was honored as outstanding officials for his contribution to the youth, open and masters athletes. He served as the treasure for MAC from 1989 ti 1992. In 1993 he received the Kurt Steiner award and in 1995 he received the Howard Schmertz award, the highest honor given to a person who has accomplished almost everything as a track & field officials. From 1995 – 118, he served as Official Association Chairman. He also was an official for the Catholic High Athletic Association and Public School Athletic League for over 30 years.
