USATF New York athletes made 16 trips to the podium at the World Masters Athletics Outdoor Championships, held August 22-September 3 in Daegu, South Korea, highlighted by Allison Murphy's world title and championship record in the 80m Hurdles.
Competing in the W55-59 division, Murphy raced to the 80m Hurdles world title in 12.49, establishing a championship record. Her winning time was just shy of her own American record of 12.35, set in July.
Rebekah Kennedy and Sarah Trigg were among USATF New York's busiest and most successful athletes in Daegu, combining for 10 trips to the podium in individual and team competition across track, cross country and road racing.
Kennedy earned four medals, including a pair of golds. She won the W50-54 10 km Road Race in 40:35 and was a member of Team USA's winning W40+ Half Marathon team. Kennedy also earned silver medals in the W50-54 5000m (19:32.76) and 8 km Cross Country team competition (2:10:50). She added a fourth-place finish in the Half Marathon (1:30:09) and fifth-place finish in the 8 km Cross Country (32:45).
Trigg collected six medals, earning silver in the W50-54 Half Marathon (1:27:46), 10 km Road Race (40:36) and 8 km Cross Country team competition (2:10:50). Her runner-up finish in the 10 km came just one second behind Kennedy as the USATF New York teammates went 1-2. Trigg added three bronze medals, finishing third in the 5000m (19:37.08) and 8 km Cross Country (32:12) and helping Team USA to third place in the Half Marathon team competition (6:09:27).
Veronica LeShore earned three medals in Daegu, including gold as a member of Team USA's W60 4x400m Relay (4:46.20) and silver in the 4x100m Relay (56.22). Individually, LeShore earned bronze in the W60-64 400m (1:06.51) and added fifth- and sixth-place finishes in the 200m (30.05) and 100m (14.25), respectively.
Sherrel Harmon completed a three-medal performance in the W75-79 division, reaching the podium with bronze medals in each of the 100m (18.62), 200m (38.87) and 400m (1:31.07).
Ani Go helped Team USA win the W55-59 8 km Cross Country team title (1:51:35). Go also finished ninth individually in the 8 km Cross Country (39:13) and 16th in the 200m (34.87).
Leo Murillo recorded three top-16 finishes in the M70-74 division, led by a fifth-place finish in the 2000m Steeplechase (11:30.70). He also finished 14th in the 5000m (29:56.79) and 16th in the 6 km Cross Country (34:07).
Graham Broyd finished 20th in the M65-69 400m in 1:26.95, while Philip Greenwald placed 33rd in the M70-74 10 km Road Race in 1:47:16.
Overall, USATF New York athletes earned 16 top-three finishes in Daegu, including three gold medals, five silver medals and eight bronze medals across individual and team competition.
