Hudson Earns Three All-American Honors at National Junior Olympic Championships in Oregon

 

Results 

The 2023 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships concluded yesterday (30-Jul) in Eugene, Oregon. The championships were held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

7719 athletes competed during the seven days of competition that began on Monday (24-Jul).  USATF New York was represented by 53 athletes who competed in 91 individual events.  

USATF New York clubs represented at the championships were (# of athletes):
Awesome Power TC (5), Chelsea Greyhounds (2), Dashing Dons & Divas (1), Hall's Express Youth Track ll (4), In Motion (1), Manhattan Youth TC (2), Merrell Noden TC (1), Mo Better Jaguars TC (3), New York Novas TC (6), Notre Dame TC (1), Ocean Breeze Wave Runners (7), Prospect Park Youth Running Club (1), River Cities Athletics (2), The Camp (1), TSC TC of New York (1).

The New York athletes earned 10 all-American honors.

Brielle Hudson (New York Starz TC) earned three all-American honors including two runner-up finishes and two New York Association records. Competing in the 11-12 Girls division she finished second in the Shot Put and Discus Throw; setting new association records in both. In the Shot Put her best mark was 11.22m (36-9¾) which broke the New York association record of 11.03m (36-2) that she she had set two weeks earlier at the Region 1 Championships. The event was won by Emirah Pettis of Nebraska with a throw of 11.95m (39-2). In the Discus Throw her mark of 28.25m (92-8) earned her another silver medal and a new New York record; breaking the record of she had set the Region 1 Championships 2 feet 5 inches. In Eugene, she was just 11 inches behind the winning mark set by Pettis. She also finished fourth in the Javelin Throw with a mark of 28.33m (92-11).

In the boys 9-10 Shot Put Gabriel Samson (VO2Max TC) finished 10th setting a new New York association record with a mark of 8.32m (27-3¾). He had previously set the record of 8.27m (27-1¾) at the Region 1 Championships two weeks earlier.

The 2023 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships will be held in Louisville,, KY on December 9.
