Quartet combines to win five national titles and earn 11 all-American honors
New York Results The 2024 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships concluded on Sunday (28-Jul) in College Station, Texas. The championships were held on the campus of Texas A&M. 7571 athletes competed during the seven days of competition that began on Monday (22-Jul). USATF New York was represented by 88 athletes who competed in 173 individual events. USATF New York clubs represented at the championships were (# of athletes): All American Blazers (5), BENSWIC (3), Brooklyn Speed and Power (1), Chelsea Greyhounds (8), Dashing Dons & Divas (1), Hall's Express Youth Track ll (12), In Motion (1), Medgar Evers Cougars TC (4), Merrell Noden TC (1), Midas touch (1), Mo Better Jaguars TF (8), New York Novas T.C. (1), River Cities Athletics (5), Notre Dame TC (3), Ocean Breeze Wave Runners (12), Prospect Park Youth Running Club (5), SP Sports Performance Group (1), Tailwind TC (1), The Leopards Project (2), and Westchester Wolves (2). The New York athletes won five (5) national titles and earned 18 all-American honors (placing in the top eight).
Adriana Pettinelli (Tailwind TC) earned three all-American honors as she won two national titles and added a runner-up finish. Competing in the Girls 13-14 division she won the 3000m and 1500m and finished second in the 800m. In the 3000m she stopped the clock at 10:31.25 to defeat Jett Hansen of Washington by over three seconds. In the 1500m she ran 4:46.34 to again defeat Hansen who ran 4:48.14. In the 800m she ran a personal best of 2:12.38 to earn her third all-American honor, trailing only the 2:11.62 by Laila Kirk of California.
Benjamin Cartwright Jr. (Dashing Dons & Divas) and Renna Rubenstein (Chelsea Greyhounds) joined Pettinelli in winning a national title and earning three all-American honors. Cartwright Jr. won the Boys 7-8 100m running 29.01; breaking the New York association record of 29.06 he established last month at the USATF Youth National Championships at Icahn Stadium. In the 100m he again broke his own new New York association record as he finished second running 13.71. The previous record also set last month at the Youth National Championships was 13.89. He earned his second silver medal in the Long Jump finishing second with a leap of 4.06m (13-04); just missing his association record by 2¼ inches. Rubenstein earned her three all-American honors in the Girls 15-16 400m Hurdles, 200m, and 100m; establishing two association records. She won the 400m Hurdles stopping the clock at 59.66 to break her own association record by over two seconds. She earned the bronze medal in the 200m running 24.06. And she finished the week off finishing fourth in the 100m running 11.64 to break the association record she established last month by .14 seconds.
Brielle Hudson (New York Starz TC) earned gold and silver in the Girls 11-12 division. In the Shot Put, an event she was the runner-up in last year, she won with a throw of 11.86m (38-11). In the Discus Throw she finished second with a mark of 31.72m (104-01). In her young Junior Olympic career, dating back to 2021, Hudson has now won six (6) national titles and earned 12 all-American honors.
Konstantin MacKinnon (Westchester Wolves) earned all-America honors in the Boys 13-14 3000m and 1500m. In the 3000m he ran to a third place finish running a personal best of 9:26.25. In the 1500m he nabbed the final all-American spot as he placed eighth running 4:24.61. In the preliminary round he set a personal best of 4:18.64 to earn his spot in the final.
Abigail Robisky (Ocean Breeze Wave Runners) smashed the association record in the Girls 13-14 400m as she placed second to Maliyah Collins (54.74) of California. Robisky's time of 54.93 broke the association record by nearly one second. The previous record of 55.91 was set in 2017 by Brianna Brown.
