USATF New York athletes delivered a strong performance at the 2026 USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held July 16-19 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The championships, which attracted 1,719 athletes from all 50 states, were significantly impacted by poor air quality caused by the Canadian wildfires. Originally scheduled as a four-day meet, the competition was effectively condensed into two days as organizers moved some events to the adjacent indoor track, revised the competition schedule, and canceled others due to unsafe air quality. Despite the challenging conditions, 8 USATF New York athletes combined to compete in 16 events at the national championships.
Leading the way for New York were Judy Stobbe (CPTC - Tracksmith) and Anine Stanley (Ruff Kutz), who each captured two national titles. Stobbe swept the W60-64 800m and 1500m, while Stanley claimed victories in the W40-44 5000m Race Walk and 10 km Race Walk.
Joining them atop the podium was Jennifer St. Jean (CPTC - Tracksmith), who won the W50-54 800m and added a silver medal in the 1500m.
New York athletes added another silver medal as Daniel Tateo (Unattached) finished runner-up in the M60-64 5000m.
Bronze medals were earned by Peter Brady (CPTC - Tracksmith), who finished third in both the M50-54 800m and 1500m, and Dominique Saint-Louis (CPTC - Tracksmith), who took third in the W55-59 800m.
Additional top-eight performances included a pair of fourth-place finishes by Terry Ballou (CPTC - Tracksmith) in the W55-59 800m and 1500m, a fourth-place finish by Leo Murillo Sr. (Unattached) in the M70-74 2000m Steeplechase, and a fourth-place finish by Lynne Funk (Unattached) in the W70-74 Long Jump. Murillo also placed seventh in the M75-79 1500m and eighth in the M70-74 5000m, while Funk added a 10th-place finish in the W70-74 Shot Put.
Despite the challenging conditions and a significantly altered competition schedule, USATF New York athletes returned home with five national titles and numerous additional podium finishes, continuing the association's tradition of excellence at the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships.
