Robisky Runs Wild at National Youth Championships in Kentucky

The 2023 USATF Youth Indoor Championships concluded on Sunday (19-March). The championships were held at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky A total of 957 athletes competed in 2353 events during the three day competition that began on Friday (17-March).
 
163 athletes from USATF-NY competed in a total of 382 events. 

The New York athletes won 19 individual national titles and five relay titles.  A total of 54 locals earned top three finishes.

Winning multiple national titles were; Abigail Robisky (Ocean Breeze Wave Runners), Sophie Lo (Prospect Park Youth), Renna Rubenstein (Chelsea Greyhounds), and Makenna Spencer (Tailwind TC).

Robinsky won the 55m, 200m, and 400m in the 12-12 girls division setting new New York association records in the 55m and 200m.  In the 55m she ran 7.50 and in the 200m she stopped the clock at 25.95.  In the 400m she ran 59.32 to miss her own record of 58.51 run earlier in the season. In the 400m finals she was joined by Prospect Park teammates Paloma Franqui (5th, 1:04.97) and Ella-Marie La Force (6th, 1:06.21).

Lo won her titles in the 15-16 girls High Jump (1.55m/5-01) and Triple Jump (10.26m/33-08). She also won the silver medal in the Long Jump (4.65m / 15-03¼). All three were new personal bests.

Rubenstein won the 55m and 400m in the 13-14 division in new personal bests. Her time in the 55m was 7.33 as shed edged out Reegan Clutter of Indiana by .03 seconds. Her winning time in the 400m was 58.38 as she defeated Aniya Geeter-Murchison (1:00.08).  Other New Yorkers making the 400m final were Milani Jackson (Ocean Breeze Wave Runners) and Camille Jefferson (Prospect Park Youth), finishing third and fifth, respectively.

Spencer captured the 7-8 girls 800m and 1500m titles in convincing fashion.  In the 800m she ran 3:02.67 to defeat Emma Yotovand (Prospect Park Youth) by over 24 seconds and in the 1500m her time of 6:18.39 was 39 seconds ahead of Yotovand. Her 800m time was a new personal best. She also finished fourth in the 400m.

In addition to Robisky's association records, Adriana Pettinelli and Alexander Kania each set new New York association records. Pettinelli (Tailwind TC) won the 13-14 girls 3000m running 10:12.37 to establish a new record. She also finished second in the 800m (2:19.53, personal best) and third in the 1500m (4:44.36, personal best). Kania (Ocean Breeze Wave Runners) won the boys 9-10 Long Jump tying the association record with a leap of 4.16m (13-07¾). He also placed fourth in the 55m (8.17) and eighth in the 200 (30.21). 

In addition to Robisky Lo, and Pettinelli earning three top-three finishes was Gabriel Samson (VO2Max Track Club). Samson won the 9-10 Boys Shot Put (8.15m/26-09) and finished second in the 1500m Race Walk (13:12.79) and High Jump (3-05¼).

Winning relay event titles were Ocean Breeze Wave Runners (9-10 Girls 4x200m Relay), 288 TC (15-18 Girls 4x400m Relay), and Prospect Park Youth (9-10 Girls 4x400m Relay, 11-12 Boys 4x400m Relay, 13-14 Girls 4x400m Relay).
