Katelyn Tuohy, 15, of Stony Point, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for October 2017.

Tuohy, a sophomore at North Rockland High School, had quite possibly the greatest October of any prep in U.S. history. She ran a total of five races; setting three course records.
On October 7 she won the Grout Invitational running 14:08 on the 4.5 km course at Central Park Schenectady.  The time broke the previous course record of 15:11 set in 2015 by Alexandra Harris.
The following week At the Manhattan Invitational she obliterated the Van Cortlandt Park girls course record by 32 seconds running 13:22.  The previous record, set two years ago, of 13:54 was held by Jessica Lawson.  Tuohy is now one of only five girls to ever break 14 minutes on the historic Van Cortlandt course; the others are Lawson, Carly Seymour (PA, 2007), Nicole Blood (NY, 2004), and Aisling Cuffe (NY, 2010).
Record #3 came two weeks later as she ran 15:56 (3 miles) at the Rockland County Championships to break the Bear Mountain Park course record by 33 seconds. The previous record was 16:28 set in 2010 by Aisling Cuffe.
Squeezed between the Van Cortlandt Park and Bear Mountain records were two other outstanding performances.  On October 18 she won the Section 1 League Championships running 17:17 at Bear Mountain.  Three days later she won the Section 1 Coaches Invitational running 17:29; the #3 time ever on the Bowdoin Park course.  Only Aisling Cuffe (17:17) in 2010 and Nicole Blood (17:28) in 2004 have ever gone faster.
