New York athletes and clubs set to descend on Alabama for National Junior Olympics

On Saturday, the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships will take place in Hoover, Alabama for athletes ages 7-18.  Over 3200 athletes from around the country are entered and will compete for national titles in 6 divisions (8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18). 
Forty (40) athletes and two teams from the New York association are entered and expected to battle for individual and team honors.  Athletes qualified for the national championships through the New York Association Championships on November 13 and then the Region 1 championships on November 20 in Sarasota Springs, N.Y..  
The top 25 finishers in each race on Saturday will earn All-American status and the coveted Junior Olympic all-American hat.
Brianna Lindo (New York Novas TC) will lead a strong 9-10 girls New York contingent on Saturday.  Lindo, last year’s national champion in the 8u girls race, won the 9-10 girls division at the region 1 championships two weeks ago but was closely followed across the line by teammate Jianna Molin and Alissa Graham (Club44) in second and third, respectively. Sahar Victoria (The Camp) was fifth.   All finished within 19 seconds of each other with the Lindo-Molin-Graham threesome all separated by just 7 seconds.  A week earlier, at the New York championships the order was all but reversed as Graham won followed by Victoria (2nd), Lindo (3rd), and Molin (4th).  All four should be in contention to finish in the top 25 and earn all-American honors.
Other New York athletes to watch, based on their top three performances at the regionals, are:
Annalisa Sabatinoc (The Camp), 8u girls, 2nd place at regionals
Wilem Wikstrom (unattached), 8u boys, 3rd place at regionals
Juliette Salazar (New York Starz Track) 11-12 girls, 3rd place at regionals
Grace Lillis (unattached) 13-14 girls, 4th place at regionals
Jasir Muwwakkil (New York Novas TC), 9-10 boys, 5th place at regionals
The two New York teams entered are the New York Starz TC (8u boys) and New York Novas TC (9-10 girls).  The New York Starz 8u boys team finished second at the regional championships with 62 points.  They are led by Kenneth Bryan and Giordano Simpson.  The New York Novas TC 9-10 girls led by Lindo and Molin won the region 1 title with an impressive 47 points and should contend for a top 10 team finish on Saturday.
