New York Athletes Ready For Junior Olympic Championships in New Mexico

On Saturday, the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships will take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico for athletes ages 7-18.  Over 2800 athletes are entered and will compete for national titles in 6 divisions (8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18). 
Thirty two (32) athletes from the New York Association are entered.  Athletes qualified for the national championships through the New York Association Championships on November 7 and then the Region 1 championships on November 21.  The top 25 finishers in each race on Saturday will earn All-American status and the coveted Junior Olympic All-American hat.
Individual athletes who won Region 1 titles and will be looking to compete near the front of their races in Albuquerque are Brianna Lindo (New York NovaStarz) in the 8 & under girls race and Alissa Graham (CLUB44) in the 9-10 girls.  Trailing Graham at the Region 1 championships were Juliette Salazar (New York NovaStarz), Leilani Gibson (unattached), and Julia Plawiak (Tailwind TC) who finished second, third, and seventh, respectively. All three will also content for top 25 finishes in Albuquerque.
In the 8 & under girls race Destoni Smith (New York NovaStarz) who placed fourth at the regionals will be in contention for a top 25 finish. Other girls looking for top 25 finishes are Grace Lillis (unattached) in the 11-12 girls race and Lily Cohen (Chelsea Greyhounds) in the 13-14 girls division.
The leading boys from New York are Behailu Bekele-Arcuri (eXCelsior Running Club) and Amos Pres (Chelsea Greyhounds).  Bekele-Arcuri finished second in at the regionals in the 13-14 race and Pres was third in the 8 & under.  Other boys who finished in the top 10 at the regionals and are entered in Albuquerque are Bart Rust (New York Starz TC) in the 15-16 boys and Keshaun Javois (CLUB44) in the 17-18 boys race.
The New York NovaStarz 9-10 girls have five runners entered and look ready to compete as a scoring team.  At the regionals they finished second with 52 points.
