NXN Future Stars Race Recap



The future looks bright as our best youth distance runners from the Northeast raced along side the best high school cross country runners at the Nike Cross National Northeast/NY Championships.

Over 150 of the best youth athletes from Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey,
New York, and Rhode Island traveled to Wappinger’s Falls, NY to compete at Bowdoin Park at the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast/New York Championships.

In the bantam boys race Azaan Dawson from New Haven Track Club, who is favored to win the national bantam championship ran the 3K course in a great time of 11:27.8 beating teammate Bolden Caleb by over 22 seconds. Caleb ran 11:50.3 and Ethan Rice from Prospect Park Youth Track Club rounded out the top three running 11:51.6. The bantam girls race Klarke Mitchell took the race by beating out Perrineau Quinten of the Eclipse TC by 7 seconds running a strong time of 12:27.9. London Claxton of the Westchester Striders came in third with a time of 12:44.5.

The midget boys race Luke Laverdiere of Yarmouth, ME ran away with the race running another outstanding time over the 3K course of 10:46.1 winning with a 22 second lead over Syncere Claxton of the Westchester Strides. William Cuthbertson of Island Express also finished on the awards podium with a time of 11:21.6. The girls midget race was just as exciting with Sarah Flynn running an amazing time of 11:26.7 over the rolling hills of Bowdion Park. Flynn won by a whopping 30 seconds over Keelyn Cummings of Kinetics. The girls from Kinetics finished 2nd through 6th; Cummings, carley Vetter, Samantha Vetter, and Caroline Starace all finishing within a 4 second time frame.

For the youth athletes they ran a more challenging 4K course with Sebastian Schadt taking the win at 14:38.8, Drake Anzano from Toms River, NY taking the silver at 14:47.7, and Graden Beasley of Naugatuck, CT rounding out the top three with a time of 14:56.1. Kieran Ungemach of Ramsey, NJ won the girls race with a time of 15:54.6, Chelsea Ogindo took the silver at 15:55.3, and Sydney Rice of Prospect Park Youth TC making it to the bottom step of the podium running 16:16.6.
