Heath, Brady, Lawson, Crispi selected as March Athletes of the Month

OPEN - Aaron Heath
Aaron Heath, 43, of Chappaqua, NY  has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for March 2018.  

On March 4 Heath ran to a third place overall finish and national title in the masters 40-44 division at the USATF 50 km Championships held in Lloyd Harbor, NY.  He ran 3:17:01 for the 31 mile race; a new career best by over six minutes.  It was the seventh time he has competed in the 50 km championships and his best finish ever (in 2016 he finished 6th overall and second in the masters 40-44 division).

The race was won by Eric Lipuma of Boulder, CO in 3:03:51 with Chris Raulli of Manlius, NY second in 3:15:10.

Heath has run 48 ultra races (from 50 km to 50 miles) since 2009.   He plans to run a 100 km race this summer and then a 100 mile race in 2019.

MASTERS - Peter Brady
Peter Brady, 46, of Scarsdale, NY has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for March 2018.  Brady competes for the Central Park Track Club New Balance.

Brady won the 1500m and 3000m at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships held March 16-18 in Landover, Maryland.  The 2017 USATF New York Masters T&F Athlete of the Year won the 3000m on day 1 of the championships running 9:06.98.  He defeated Jef Scott of Kentuck who ran 9:10.19.  The next day he faced long-time rival Mark Williams of New Jersey in the 1500m.  Williams took the lead from the gun with Brady sitting on his shoulder until the final 35m when he was able to inch ahead to win by just .39 seconds.  His winning time was 4:15.61.

YOUTH - Kyaire Lawson 
Kyaire Lawson, 11, of Cambria Heights, NY has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for March 2018.  Lawson competes for Ruff Kutz.

At the USATF Hershey Youth Indoor Championships (March 9-11) at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Lawson visited the awards podium on three occassions for top six finishes in his events.  Competing in the 11-12 division, the highlighht of the meet for Lawson was winning the 55m hurdles in a new New York assocaition record of 8.55.  The time broke the former record of 8.94 by 
Aaron Cruickshank in 2012.  He was just .01 seconds off of the meet record.

In the 400m he ran to a third place finish running 1:01.23 and in the 200m he stopped the clock at 26.93 to place fifth.

High School - Charles Crispi
Charles Crispi, 17, of Staten Island, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for March 2018.  He is a senior at Monsignor Farrell High School.

On March 3 Crispi won the New York State Championships with a clearance of 15-9.  

The following week he cleared a career best of 16-5¼ to place fifth at the New Balance Nationals at the NYC Armory. The mark makes Crispi the third best performer indoors in New York history.  Only Jordan Yamoah (2011) and Todd Uckermark (2014) have cleared higher heights. Yamoah holds the state record at 17-1.
