OPEN - Lalonde Gordon
Lalonde Gordon, 28, of Queens, NY has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for August 2017.   He competes for the New York Athletic Club and is sponsored by Puma.
Gordon competed at the IAAF World Championships in London where he represented Trinidad & Tobago.  In the individual 400m, the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in the 400m and 4x400m relay, ran 45.20 in the semi-finals to finish what he described as a disappointing 15th place overall.  In the 1st round he ran 45.02.

But he more than made for the disappointment in the 400m as he unleashed a furious anchor leg split of 44.02 in the 4x400m relay to lead his country to the gold medal.  Gordon took the baton just behind Fred Kerley of the United States and used a sustained kick over the last 120m to edge ahead with 20m to go and claim victory by .49 seconds.  The team’s time of 2:58.12 established a new national record; breaking the 2:52.20 the squad ran to earn the silver medal at the 2015 world championships.
MASTERS - Ellen Basile
Ellen Basile, 45, of New York, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for August 2017.  Basile competes for Urban Athletics.

Just five days later she ran 19:28 at the NYC FoxTrot 5K for Parkinson's Research in Riverside Park.

* The age grading scoring tables provide a means to converted each athlete’s performance in a manner to allow for comparing performances regardless of the age or gender of the athlete.
