NYAC, NJNYTC, Central Park TC athletes competing at USATF Championships

(16 Feb.) The 2018 USATF Indoor Championships start today in Albuquerque, N.M. with the combined events, and will conclude on Sunday. Athletes placing in the top two, in most events, will be eligible to represent Team USA at next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, U.K.
A total of 26 members of USATF New York are entered in 29 events.  
Leading off the drive for Birmingham is 2016 Olympic decathlete Jeremy Taiwo (Renton, Wash.) who will compete today and tomorrow in the heptathlon and is also entered in Saturday’s high jump competition.  Taiwo, the 11th place finisher in the Rio decathlon recently joined the New York AC.  He enters today’s competition as the #3 seed in the heptathlon and the #5 seed in the high jump.  Entered with #1 seeds are fellow NYAC teammates Jeneva Stevens (Shot Put) and Gwendolyn Berry (Weight Throw).  Stevens is also entered in the shot put with the #2 entry seed.
A total of 11 athletes will represent the NYAC in Albuquerque.  In addition to Taiwo, Berry and Stevens the NYAC athletes scheduled to compete are:

The Hoka NJNY Track Club is sending seven athletes to the championships.  The Rye based club will see five of their athletes in the 800m and two in the 1500m.

Three members of the Central Park TC New Balance will compete on the track over the weekend. Asha Ruth, who last month anchored the U.S. record setting 4x200m relay, is entered in the 60m (#11 seed) and the 400m (#17 seed).  At last year’s championships she finished seventh in the 300m. Meghan Manley, 24, of New York will compete in the 800m (#9 seed).  This is her second indoor championships (last year she placed eighth in the 600m).  Kira Garry, 24, a 2015 graduate of Yale, will compete in the 3000m (#10 seed).  This will be her first USATF Indoor championships.  At the outdoor championships last summer in Sacramento, Calf. she finished 20th in the 3000m steeplechase.  She recently finished 18th at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships in Lexington, KY.
William Nesbitt, 56, of Garrison, NY will compete in the masters exhibition pole vault competition on Saturday.
