OPEN - Brendan Martin

Brendan Martin
, 28, of Smithtown, NY has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for November 2017.   Martin competes for the New York Athletic Club.  He is a 2011 graduate of Columbia University.

Martin ran 2:22:26 at the TCS New York City Marathon to finish 15ht overall.  He was the second USATF New York member, behind Meb Keflezighi, to finish and the #5 american across the line.

MASTERS - Meb Keflezighi

Meb Keflezighi
, 42, of San Diego, Calf. has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for November 2017. Keflezighi competes for for the New York Athletic Club. 

Keflezighi finished 11th overall at the TCS New York City Marathon running 2:15:29 and was the second masters athlete to cross the line (Abdi Abdirahman  - 2:12:148).  This was Keflezighi 26th and final marathon in a career that included winning the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games, winning the NYC Marathon in 2009, and winning the 2014 Boston Marathon.  He was on four U.S. Olympic teams (2004, 2012 4th in the marathon, and 2016)
 
He ended his career with bests of 3:42.29 (1500m), 13:11.77 (5000m), 27:13.98 (10,000m - an American record until 2010), and 2:08:37 (marathon, set at the 2014 Boston Marathon).  
 
He is the current American masters record holder at 15 km (44:23), 10 mile (47:39), 20 km (59:43), half marathon (1:03:02), 30 km (2:34:05) and marathon (2:12:20 set at the 2016 Olympic Trials).

YOUTH - Amos Pres 

Amos Pres
, 10, of New York has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for November 2017.  Pres runs for the Chelsea Greyhounds.  


Pres won the 9-10 race at the USATF New York Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship on November running at Van Cortlandt Park.  He won by 14 seconds running 11:46 (#5 on the Van Cortlandt Park 9-10 boys all-time list).
 
A week later he again ran to victory at the Region 1 Championships against athletes from Adirondack, Connecticut, Long Island, Maine and New England.  His winning time of 10:50 put him 22 seconds ahead of Owen Martin (New England).
 
Note: in December Pres finished eighth at the National Junior Olympic Championships for his third consecutive all-American honor (2016-22nd place 9-10, 2015-8th place 7-8).

High School - Ryan Tierney

Ryan Tierney
, 17, of Staten Island , N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for November 2017.


On November 11, Tierney ran 12:52 at Van Cortlandt Park to finish third at the CHSAA Interscholastic Championships.

A week later he finished sixth at the New York Federation Championships running 16:18 at Bowdoin Park in Wappinger Falls.  Just two days later he finished second (to teammate Dom Boccia) at the Staten Island Championships as both crossed the line in 16:17 on the Clove Lake State Park course on Staten Island.
