McManus & Bayly Notch Top Finishes at Club Championships

Urban Athletics NYC teammates Mike McManus (New York) and Fiona Bayly (New York) turned in the top individual performances and the Central Park TC New Balance men's 40+ and Urban Athletics NYC women 40+ teams the best team finishes at the 2014 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships on December 13.  The  event was held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.  
 
Over 1750 athletes competed in the four events - Open Women (6 km), Open Men (10 km), Masters Women (6 km), Masters Men (10 km) - making it the largest club championships in history.  The previous record was 1131 athletes when the event was held in Seattle in 2011.  In addition to the club championships, the meet's main focus, the races also served as the USA championships for individuals in 5-year masters divisions.
 
Based on age-graded scoring tables McManus and Bayly were the top male and female USATF New York members on the day.  McManus, 49, finished 8th in the men's 45-49 division in a time of 34:06.  His time scored 89.32% on the masters age-grading tables.   Of the 595 masters men he had the 14th best age-graded score.  I came into the event a bit banged up following and injury sustained in the Berlin Marathon in September but was so excited to compete with my Urban Athletics NYC teammates," offered McManus.  "Competing against the best masters runners from across the country was an incredible experience.  I am looking forward to more masters competition in 2015 especially since I enter the M50 division in the fall."
 
Other men scoring over 80% were Hector Rivera (87.47%), Gerry O'Hara (81.94%), Brad Kelley (81.62%), and Jonathan Schindel (80.15%).
 
Bayly, 47, placed 3rd in the women's 45-49 division running 22:38 over the 6 km course. She placed 12th out of 255 women) in the women's age graded results with a score of 86.47%.  Other women scoring over 80% were Charlotte Rizzo (83.57%), Jennifer St Jean (82.55%), and Judy Stobbe (81.59%).  
 
The top placing New York teams male and female teams were the Urban Athletics NYC women's 40+ and the Central Park TC New Balance (CPTCNB) men's 40+ teams.   Urban Athletics NYC finished 10th out of 32 teams in the women's 40+ division with 90 points. The team's top scorer was Bayly.  She was followed by Dominique Saint-Louis, 48, and Jennifer Amato, 42, both of New York.  Finishing once place behind Urban Athletics with 96 points was the Central Park TC New Balance.  In the women's 50+ division Westchester Track Club placed 12th out of 23 teams.
 
In men's team competition, the CPTCNB team placed 18th out of 40 teams to lead the New York association clubs.  Their team score was 568 points.  The team's five scorers were: Brad Kelley, 48, of Jackson Heights, NY; Armando Oliveira, 47, of New York; David Greenberg, 47, of New York, Gerry O'Hara, 50, of East Rockaway, NY; and John Milone, 42, of Fort Lee, NJ.   Also competing in the 40+ division were Urban Athletics NYC who placed 21st with 631 points and Dashing Whippets Running Club finishing 32nd with 906 points.
 
Next year's championships will be held on December 12 in San Francisco, Calf.
