Hehir, Haynes, Muccini, Tuohy Named October Athletes of the Month

OPEN - Martin Hehir
Martin Hehir, 23, of Washingtonville, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for October 2016. Hehir, a 2016 graduate of Syracuse who finished seventh in the Olympic Trials 10,000m in July, finished fourth at the USATF 10 Mile Championships on October 9.  The championships were held in Minneapolis as part of the Medtronic TC 10 Mile.  His time was 47:48.  It was the second top six finish at a USATF national championship this year.  In March he finished sixth at the USATF 15 km Championships in Jacksonville.
 
 





MASTERS - Noel Haynes
Noel Haynes, 70, of Brooklyn has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for October 2016.  
 
Haynes who aged into the 70-74 division in mid-August took full advantage of his his new found “youth” to star at the recently completed World Masters Athletics Championships in Perth, Australia.  Haynes competed in the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay.   In the 800m Haynes ran 2:29.78 to win the world title; scoring 92.72% on the age grading tables (scores of 90% and above are considered world class performances).  In the 400m he finished third running 1:02.45 (94.48%).  In the  1500m he stopped the clock at 5:11.18 (90.37%) to finish fourth.  He finished 11th in the 200m running 29.26 (88.17%).  In the two relays that he compete on Team USA finished fourth.
 
 
YOUTH - Siena Muccini
Siena Muccini, 12, of Douglaston, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for October 2016.  She competes for TSC Track Club of New York in the girls 11-12 division.  Muccini competed in and won all three of the USATF New York Cross Country Series meets that were held in October at Van Cortlandt Park;  On October she ran 12:10 to win meet #1.  The following week she ran 11:47 to set a new Association record; breaking the record by 1 second.  A week later she stopped the clock at 11:54 to take her third win in as many weeks.  (note: On November 13 Muccini won the Association championships to qualify for Saturday’s Region 1 championships in Albany).
 
 


HIGH SCHOOL - Katelyn Tuochy
Katelyn Tuohy, 14, of Stony Point, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for October 2016.   Tuohy is a freshman at North Rockland High School.
 
Tuohy had a perfect month in October as she won all four races she competed in.  She started the month off with a win at the Grout Invitational Invitational in Schenectady running 14:38 over the 4.5 km course.  On October 8 she won the Manhattan Invitational Eastern States running 14:12.4 over the historic Van Cortlandt Park 2.5 mile course.  The time is the 15th fastest in course history and the 7th best ever by a New York athlete.  The following week she captured the Section 1 Coaches Invitational at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls in a time of 18:18.  On October 28 she stopped the clock at 16:55 over the 3 mile course at the Rockland County Championships held at Bear Mountain State Park. (note: On November 5 she won the Section 1 Championships and then on November 12 she finished second at the NYSPHSAA - New York State Championships).
