OPEN - John Gregorek
John Gregorek, 25, of Tarrytown, NY has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for July 2017.   He competes for the Hoka NJNYTC.

Gregorek had a busy month as he prepared to represent Team USA at the world championships in London in mid-August.   He competed in four meets and scored above 1100 points on the IAAF scoring tables in all four.  

His best performance cam on July 8 at the TrackTown Summer Series meet at Icahn Stadium.  Competing for the NY Empire he won the 1500m running a career best time of 3:35.00.  His previous best was 3:36.04 set in 2016.  Four days earlier her finished eighth in the 1500m at the TrackTown Summer Series meet in Portland running 3:38.77.  He then went to Belgium for two meets. On July 22 he won the 1500m at the Heusden-Zolder KBC Night of Athletics meet in 3:38.12. Seven days later he finished third in the 800m at the Merksem Antwerp Athletics Gala running another career best of 1:47.12.
 
 
MASTERS - Nolan Haynes
Nolan Haynes, 70, of Brooklyn, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for July 2017.  Haynes competes for the Central Park Track Club - New Balance. 

At the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships July 13-16 in Baton Rouge, LA, Haynes won three events and one silver medal in the men’s 70-74 division.

In the 400m and 800m he ran 1:03.84 and 2:33.32, respectively, for two of his winning performances.  In the 400m his time was worth 92.42% on the age graded scoring tables and his 800m scored 93.71%.  Scores of over 90% are considered world class performances and scores of 80-90% national class.  His third win came in the 1500m running 5:25.73 (86.33%).  In the 200m he finished second to Ty Brown of the District of Columbia. His time was 29.27 (88.17%).


YOUTH - Alissa Graham
Alissa Graham, 11, of Brooklyn, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for July 2017.  Graham competes for Club44.

At the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships July 24-30 in Lawrence, Kan., Graham earned three all-American honors in the 11-12 girls division.  On the final day of competition she scored her highest finish placing second in the 1500m running 4:58.84.  In the 3000m she ran 10:48.31 to finish third and in the 800m she finished fourth running 2:21.61.  The time in the 800m established a new association record breaking her own record of 2:23.87 set two weeks earlier at the regional championships.  She is now a seven-time all-American (two in cross country and five in track & field).
 
Two weeks earlier at the region 1 championships in Fitchburg, Mass. she won the 800m, 1500, and 3000m running 2:23.87, 4:57.38, 10:54.69; respectively.
 
HIGH SCHOOL - Louise Jones 
Louise Jones, 17, of Valley Cottage, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for July 2017.  Jones competes for the Rock City Striders.

Jones, a rising at senior at Nyack High School, finished fourth in the 17-18 400m hurdles at the National Junior Olympic Championships in Kansas.  She ran a career best time of 1:01.44.


At the region 1 championships two weeks earlier in Massachusetts she won the 400m hurdles and finished second in the 400m running 1:04.35 and 58.39, respectively.  In the week between the region and national championships she traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the UAGTCA Youth Meet where she won the 400m hurdles in 1:04.35 and also ran 25.69 in the 200m
