Gavenas, Gorevic, Graham, and Lindo Capture Region Cross Country Titles

Results

Two Hundred Seventy Seven (277) athletes from New York competed in the 2015 USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships over the weekend. The championships were held in Deerfield Park in Smithfield, R.I. 
 
Individuals finishing in the top thirty (30) and the top five (5) teams in each division qualified for the national championships which will be held on December 12 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A total of 62 athletes and 7 teams from New York qualified for the national championships.
 
Four individuals from New York won their races. Winning individual titles were Tamrat Gavenas, Brianna Lindo, Alissa Graham, and Jonah Gorevic
 
8 & under Sweep  
Tamrat Gavenas (New York / Prospect Park Youth Running Club) easily defended his 2014 title as he won the boys 8 & under division outrunning the closest competitor Adrian Narvaez of Massachusettes by 7 seconds over the 2 km course. His time was 7:12. Winning the girls 8 & under title was Brianna Lindo (Jamaica / New York NovaStarz) who ran 7:22 to win by an incredible 27 seconds over Emerson Flaker of Maine. At last year's championship Lindo finished third.
 
Graham Leads 9-10 Girls New York Sweep
Alissa Graham (Brooklyn / Club 44) led a sweep of the top four places and 6 of the top eight place in the 9-10 girls division. She crossed the line in 11:26 and was quickly followed by Juliette Salazar (Peekskill / New York NovaStarz) and Leilani Gibson (unattached / Brooklyn) in second and third, respectively as they both stopped the clock at 11:33. McKenna Dixon (Brooklyn / Dashing Divas) finished fourth in 11:39. Finishing seventh and eighth were Julia Plawiak (Yonkers / Tailwind TC) and Tamera Rodiq (Bronx / VO2Max Track Club)
 



Gorevic The Great Dominates
Jonah Gorevic (Rye / Tailwind Track Club) ran 9:45 to easily outdistance Ethan Carpenter of Rhode Island by 12 seconds n the 11-12 boys race. More impressive than his win may have been his post-race dance moves with his Tailwind TC teammates.


We are the Champions
The Prospect Park Youth Running Club easily captured the 8 & under boys team title as they scored an impressive 35 points to win by 51 points over Town Track Club of New England. The scoring members of the team were Tamrat Gavenas, Luca Danielski, Cameron Nicolas, Dante Ballou, and Caylan George.
