Gaines, Trautmannm, Gorevic, McIntosh Selected as February Athletes of the Month

Open
Jessie Gaines, 24, of Brooklyn has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for February 2015.  On February 13 at the Molloy College  Indoor Invitational Gaines jumped 6.55m (21-6) in the long jump; the US #2 mark and an personal best mark. The following day at the Monmouth University Winter Collegiate Open in Monmouth, NJ she jumped 6.19m to win the long jump and ran 8.47 to win the 60m hurdles.   At the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships Gaines competed in both the 60m hurdles and long jump.  She placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.23m (20-5¼) and 7th in the 60m hurdles running 8.31.  In the first round of the 60m hurdles she stopped the clock at 8.20 to set a lifetime best.  (Photo: Kirby Lee)
 
 
Masters
John Trautmann, 46, of New York City has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for February 2015.   Trautmann, a member of the 1992 Olympic team in the 5000m, started the month off by running the 4:18.63 for 1 mile  at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 7.  The time was the 3rd fastest time ever in the 45-49 division. Then a week later, again in Boston, competing in the 6th heat of the 1 mile at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, a predominately collegiate meet, he ran 4:12.33 to break the world record by over 4 seconds.  The previous record was  4:16.83 set by Brad Barton in 2013.  At the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the end of the month Trautmann won the masters invitational 1500m running 3:59.47.  The time is the 2nd fastest time ever run in the 45-49 division trailing only the world record 3:57.91 by Tony Young from 2009. (Photo: Kirby Lee)
 
 
Youth
Jonah Gorevic, 11, of Rye, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for February 2015. On February 14, Gorevic ran 2:18.20 at the NYRR Millrose Games to win the Youth 800m race against runners several years older than him.  A week later, competing at the USATF Northeast Zone Indoor Championships in Houghton, N.Y., Gorevic won the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m races in the 11-12 division. High School
Kamyrn McIntosh, 15, of Hillburn, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for February 2015.  McIntosh, a sophomore at Suffern High School.  Macintosh began the month tripling at the Rockland / Northern County Championships and finished the month off with a national high school record in the 600m.  In between she anchored her team to the 4x400m relay title at the NYRR Millrose Games with a 54.97 split.  On February 7 at the the country championships she won the 600m (1:34.06)and 1000m (2:56.32) and also was second in the 300m (39.70).  On February 17 competing in the New York Section 1 AA Championships she ran 1:28.78 for 600m to break the national high school  record.  The previous record was 1:29.27 set in 1995 by Janine Davis of New Jersey.
