Edwards, Stobbe, Morone, Quarshie Selected as July Athletes of the Month

Open
Samantha Edwards (Central Park TC - New Balance), 29, of Elmont, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for July 2015.  Edwards had an incredibly busy month of July.  At the Club Championships in New York on July 11 she placed second in the 200m and fourth 400m to score 16 points to lead Central Park TC to their fourth consecutive national title.  Her times were 23.59, a career best, and 53.36.  A week later at the Loughborough EAP Meeting in Great Britain she finished sixth in the 200m running 24.19.  She wrapped up the month with a fifth place finish in the 200m at the Dublin Morton Games in Ireland.
 
 

Masters
Judy Stobbe, 50, of New York has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for July 2015. Stobbe, who competes for the Central Park TC began the month of July with a 2:29.99 800m on July 7 at the NYRR Night at the Race meet.  At the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships held July 23-26 in Jacksonville, Fla.  she won the W50-54 800m and finished second in the 1500m. Her times were 2:27.51 and 5:06.90.  The 1500m time is valued at 90.14% on the masters age grading scoring tables and the 800m is valued at 86.11%.  A score of above 80% is considered national class and above 90% world class.  Her 800m time broke her career best of 2:28.83 and the 2:29 that she ran in 1982 while a senior in high school.  A week prior to the masters championships, at the USATF Club Championships, Stobbe ran the lead-off leg on the third place  4x800m relay team. 
 
Youth
Joseph Morone (Chelsea Greyhounds), 11, of New York has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for July 2015.  At the the National Junior Olympic Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. Morone placed fourth in the 11-12 shot put to earn all-American honors and also finished 37th in the 80m hurdles.  In the shot put he threw 12.67m (41-07).  Two weeks earlier he won the shot put at the Region 1 championships establishing a new association record of 13.37m (43-10.5”).  He also finished second in the 80m hurdles running 13.81.
 
 


High School
Kaylah Quarshie (Hall’s Express Youth Track II), 16, of Port Jervis, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for July 2015. At the National Junior Olympic Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. she won the 15-16 1500m and finished third in the 800m.  In the 1500m she ran 4:38.25 and in the 800m she ran 2:15.99. In the 800m semi-finals she ran 2:15.35  Two weeks earlier at the Region 1 championships she won the 800m and finished second in the 1500m (4:47.35).
