Central Park TC Wins Sixth Straight Club Championships Title

Host club Central Park Track Club New Balance (CPTC-NB) won both the women’s and combined team titles at the 2015 USATF National Club Track & Field Championships on Saturday, July 11.  The championships were held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
 
In the women’s competition, behind strong performances by Samantha Edwards, Chanel King, and Jasmine Simmons, CPTC-NB scored 182 points to outlast Norfolk Real Deal Track Club (Virginia) by 21 points. Edwards and King both scored 16 points towards the team victory amd Simmons added 14 points to the cause.  Edwards points were earned as she finished second in the 200m and fourth in the 400m. King scored in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. Simmons earned  her 14 points with a second place in the long jump and third place in the triple jump.  Other New York clubs to reach the scoreboard were Hudson Valley Flying Circus (13th place), Westchester Track Club (T-17th place), Gotham Spark Athletic Club (T-17th place), New Horizon Track Club (T-21st place), New York Athletic Club (T-21st place), Park Racewalkers, USA (27th place), and North Brooklyn Runners (31st place)
 
The CPTC-NB men’s team finished second to long-time rival Shore Athletic Club (New Jersey).  CPTC-NB scored 119 points but fell 21 points short of the title.  The CPTC-NB 4x100m relay did set a new meet record running 39.75 to eclipse the 39.79 run in 2006 by the Executive Track Club.

Also setting a meet record was Andrew Springer (NJNYTC) in the men’s 5000m.  Springer’s time of 14:05.60 topped the 14:25.7 set in 2003 by Club Northwest’s Paul Kezes.

Other New York clubs to reach the scoreboard were; Shore Road Striders Running Club (6th place),  New York Athletic Club (9th place), New Jersey New York TC (10th place), Chelsea Piers Sprint Club (11th place), New Horizon Track Club (16th place), Musketeers Track Club (19th place), North East Athletics (21st place), The Executives Track Club (T-29th place), Park Racewalkers, USA (T-29th place), Gotham Spark Athletic Club (T-29th place),
 
Based on the combined women’s and men’s scores (302 points) CPTC-NB won the combined title for the sixth year in a row.
