Brannigan, Bayly, Harper, Harris Named October Athletes of the Month

Michael Brannigan, 18, of East Northport, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Open Athlete of the Month for October 2015.  Brannigan who competes for the New York AC won the 1500m T20 race at the International Paralympic Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.  Brannigan ran 3:56.50 to edge Nasiri Bazanjani Peyman of Iran by .03 seconds.
 
 




MASTERS
Fiona Bayly, 48, of New York has been selected as the USATF New York Masters Athlete of the Month for October 2015.  Bayly competed in four events during the month including winning a national title. On October 11 Bayly was the overall women's champion at the NYRR Five-Borough Series: Staten Island Half.  She went through 10 km with a 2 second lead and extended it to nearly 2 minutes at the finish. Her time of 1:22:53 scored 87.87% on the masters age grading tables.  The following week she claimed her first USATF national title as she won the W45 division at the USATF Masters 5 km Cross Country Championships in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.   She ran 18:24 and finished16 seconds ahead of  Emily Bryans of Schenectady, NY.    Her age graded performance of 87.89% was the fifth best of all women.  She also led the Urban Athletics NYC women's 40+ team to the team title.  On October 25 she finished 4th overall and 1st masters at the Poland Spring Marathon Kick-Off 5 Miler in Central Park.  She stopped the clock at 30:25 (88.04% age graded performance).  She completed the month on October 31 by running 18:15 at the NYRR Dash to the Finish 5K.  She  finished 14th overal among women and won the masters title.  Her age graded performance was 89.73%
 
YOUTH
Ermiyas Harper, 14, of Brooklyn, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York Youth Athlete of the Month for October 2015.  Harper, who competes for the Prospect Park Youth Running Club, won two races, setting course records in both, in the New York Cross County Series.  On October 11, he won ran 14:10 at VanCortlandt Park to set the New York Association 13-14 record.  The following week he ran 14:57 to set the course record at the Warwick Valley course. 
 




HIGH SCHOOL
Alexandra Harris, 16, of Stony Point, N.Y. has been selected as the USATF New York High School Athlete of the Month for October 2015.  On October 110, Harris, a junior at North Rockland High School finished fifth at the Manhattan College Invitational at VanCortlandt Park.  Her time of 14:13 puts her #16 on the all-time VanCortlandt Park high school list.  A week earlier she finished second at the Section 1 Coaches Invitational.
